Darkgem is a solo black metal project characterized by a shifting sound with loose boundaries tied together through the harrowing cries of its soul creator, Ian Henry.

Black metal is a genre, which allows us to look plainly at the dark, the depressing, the ugly, and the disturbing, as well as the fantastic and otherworldly. Darkgem as a project exists as both a tool for coping with the harsh realities of living in a decaying capitalist empire, and for expressing the rage needed to bring this system to an end. It is a vessel I use to look plainly at the darkness within myself and the world, and reflect that outwards in a multitude of distorted sonic forms.

The Mage tyrant reigns

There is blackness upon this land
For too long a pestilence has seeped from the sky into the soil
A blight so putrid as to make gown men vomit from the stench
Our fields are barren, littered with the debris of festering rotted flesh

Hoarder of magic
Bringer of death
Dethrone the wizard
The Sorcerer king!

Out from a black chasm in the sky pours the putrid remains of unknown lives
Faceless heads and severed limbs desecrated beyond recognition
Drained of essence, the land cannot hold back the cosmic blight
Tonight we kill the Sorcerer king !!!

On the third night of the new moon, he climbs the golden tower
With his arms outstretched he utters an incantation in a tongue so foul
As to burn to the ears of all that hear it
This is our chance to make our strike! Tonight we kill the Wizard!

Come to me oh essence of the land!
Come to me oh power of the people!
Feed our primal rage
Give us the strength to end the wizard’s reign!
